About the temple

Tehsil of District Bilaspur is sacred temple of Hari Devi situated on a high hill in the northern direction

of village Dangar, 10 km towards west direction from Ghumarwin.





Here a very big fair is organized every year in the month of May, courtesy of the village (JOL) and the Gram Panchayat lehri Sarail.
Devotees consider this goddess to be their true goddess and pray for them, On completion of the vow the devotees keep coming from time to time to offer prayers.






History


According to historical findings and facts told by the priests, it is said that in the village Dangar which is situated at the bottom of this temple, the amazing girl used to play with the children of the village, when the animals were pastured and the evening, when the children returned to their homes, they would be miraculous the girl becomes a stone rock  in this pasture and disappears.

Who is this girl, where does she come from, where does she go, no one knows anything. As time passed, one day a person appeared in a dream in the village, the girl said, "I am a Devakanya."

I lay in the grassland of the village as a rock. Lift me up on the high hill of the village.


The old man narrated the entire pisode to the whole village, all the people of the village gathered. After lifting the stone , leave this stone rock on the high hill of the village by making a pedestal

The next day, after finding the rock vanished again, it was found that she has gone to the previous place.


The old man again had a dream that i am Devakanya, take me in a jatra form with drums and give me a holy place.

The villagers did the for many years, the villagers continued to worship this stone form stone girl.


Gradually, the glory of this goddess spread around the whole state. The glory of the goddess was also revealed in the Raj Mahal of the princely state of Bilaspur.



Bilaspur was ruled by the king of Chandel dynasty at that time. He had no children of his own . king and subjects were worried about who would be the next heir.

Queen Nagar was the Empress of King Devi Chand of the princely state of Dei.

One day when the Empress was passing through the village Dangar in sedan , she saw a large stone rock on the pedestal on the high hill above the vilage.

Sedan lifters told when that Empress , this is the same stone in which Devakanya resides. THis goddess is fulfills all wishes.

The queen stopped the  sedan and came down and bowed to the goddess and asked for a vow. "O!mother, make my lap green, i will build a magnificent temple at this place of yours".

The next year, in Vikram Samvat 1831, with the blessings of the goddess, the qreen received a son, named Maha chand. A joyous atmosphere arose in the palace.

The princely state of Bilaspur got its successor, the queen, after completing her vow, built a grand temple of the goddess at this place, which is still alive.


The name of the temple is "Hari Devi", meaning the goddess who made the queen's lap green. This temple is revered as the presiding goddess of the residents of this village and the ruler of the Chandel dynasty.


 Newly married brides still come today to offer their Sehra and the first Mundan case of a newborn in this temple.
